picture of st. marks church - white clap board - entrance to sanctuary in center of building - community hall with bell tower on leftSt. Marks is located 4-miles inland from the Pacific Ocean, and 4-miles from the Eel River. You will cross one of the oldest bridges on the west coast to get here. Surrounded by California Dairy Farms and the Redwood forests we are in the middle of the Victorian Village of Ferndale.

In order to appreciate the history of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, one must first investigate the history of Ferndale, California. Ferndale is located in Humboldt County, California about 250 miles north of San Francisco. Ferndale was settled in the 1850's and incorporated in 1893.

Geographically, it is the westernmost city in the continental US enjoying a seasonal climate generally between 50-70 degrees due to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean.

St. Marks Lutheran Church was dedicated on October 16, 1939; however, Lutheran services have been held in Ferndale as far back as 1893. You can view a slide show of the construction here. Today we continue to hold services, reach out to our community, and serve those in need through our ministries and missions. Drop us a note! Come by and visit. We'd love to meet you.
