The mission of St. Mark's Lutheran Church is to joyfully share the love of God in Jesus Christ with all people,
serving and nurturing them in faith for the assurance of eternal salvation.

Lutheran Women's Missionary League At St. Marks

image of women enjoying each other's companyLWML is an organization to develop and maintain a greater mission consciousness among its women in our own community and in the world at large. We gather funds for the support of mission’s projects selected by its members at the national and district conventions through our Mite Boxes.

Our group also wants to cultivate Christian fellowship among its members and prospective members. We follow our sisters in district and national by following and setting the goals of Missions, Mites, Mentoring others and More Bible Study. It is a group for all ages. Usually we meet from September to June monthly. We have a general meeting during the year and are visited by guest speakers, have social events, special events and fund raisers. There is a District convention for members and prospective members each April. In the fall and spring we have Rallies or a Retreat. Our group usually hosts the spring rally. Each member has chosen someone who is not a member from the congregation to mentor during the year.

Lutheran Women's Missionary League in North Humboldt

The CNH LWML is incorporating the 3 Primary Targets set forth by the LWML into our planning:

Growing in the Lord - Through intentional study of the Word, women of today find guidance for their lives and are encouraged in their personal daily walk with the Lord;

Embracing Our Diversity - The body of Christ grows and is strengthened when sisters of every age, class, culture, and ethnic group are sought out to participate actively in the mission of LWML;

Sharing the Heart and Identity of LWML - LWML enables and equips its members and advocated to share with others the vision and direction of LWML as it emphasizes mission outreach locally and globally.

The LWML Fall Rally will be in Crescent City at Grace Lutheran Church on October 16 for our Zone-13 North Coast Redwood chapter. Scholarships & Other Special Funds

Steinbeck Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Steinbeck Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1970 following the death of Mrs. Karl Steinbeck. Verna was Mission Hospice Chairman for the CNH LWML for many years, serving as host to missionaries and their families as they passed through San Francisco. This fund is designated to assist in the higher education of children of overseas missionaries who attend a college or university in the United States.

School Year Fall 2010/Spring of 2011 - We approved scholarships in the amount of $5,500 divided evenly between 11 students who are the children of missionaries serving oversees for the LC-MS.

One of the convention offerings at our 2010 CNH LWML Convention in San Jose, April 30-May 2, was collected for this scholarship fund. You may donate to this fund at any time by sending a check to our Financial Secretary, Jean Orsborn. Make your checks payable to the LWML and designate it for the "Steinbeck Fund". Mailing Address listed on our remittance form.

Rubin Perpetual Memorial Fund

The Rubin Perpetual Memorial Fund was established in 1968 in honor of Reverend Alwin L. Rubin. As a staunch supporter of the LWML, he served as counselor at both district and international levels. Funds are released each year to the CNH District Student Aid Committee, which administers the fund in the form of financial aid to students from this District who intend to enter full time church work.

One of our offerings at our 2010 CNH LWML convention was collected for the Rubin Perptual Memorial Fund.

Both of these scholarship funds are supported by our love gifts, CNH LWML convention offerings, and interest from CEF notes. Individuals, societies, and zones may also give love gifts to either fund throughout the year.
